Shawl: a simple item of clothing, loosely worn over the shoulders, upper body and arms, sometimes also over the head.
Today, shawls are worn for added warmth (and fashion) at outdoor or indoor evening affairs where the temperature is warm enough for women in dresses and where a jacket might be inappropriate.
Stole: typically narrower than a shawl, and of simpler construction than a cape; wrapped and carried about the shoulders or arms.
Many are bought especially to go with Evening/Ball dresses particularly for prom.
Belts:
Belts have been documented both for male and female clothing since the Bronze age.
Today it is common for men to wear a belt with their trousers; women tend to wear them for more decorative functions.
Gloves:
Gloves have been made of many materials including cloth, knitted or felted wool, leather, rubber, and latex.
Today gloves are made around the world. Most expensive women's fashion gloves are still made in France, with some made in Canada.
Handbags:
The first appearance of a bag is on Egyptian hieroglyphics, which show pouches worn around the waist.
In the early 1900s people began calling their bags "handbags".
In American English, a purse is a small bag, also called a handbag or a pocketbook.
In British English, a purse is a small money container similar to a wallet, but typically used by women and including a compartment for coins, with a handbag being considerably larger; indeed, a purse is often kept in a handbag.
